When to Plant Grass Seed

Fall is best for planting cool-season grasses like Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrasses, and tall fescues. Daytime air temperatures should be averaging between 60 and 85 degrees which translates to soil temperatures between 50 to 75 degrees. Spring is the second best option for cool-season grasses. Warm-season grasses, like Bermudagrass, Bahiagrass, Centipede grass and Zoysia grass has the most successful germination rates in spring and early summer when daytime temperatures are averaging about 80 degrees.

How to Plant Grass Seed

Test to be sure your lawn pH is between 6.0 and 7.4. Prepare the seed bed and apply Lesco Starter Fertilizer 18-24-12.. Broadcast your seed at the recommended rate.
