Henderson’s Silver Springs Park reopened last week, after nearly a year of renovations.
The park serves Gibson Elementary School students, as well as visitors to the nearby Silver Springs Recreation Center.
About $750,000 of the funding for the park’s reconstruction came from the city’s department of utility services. Another $453,100 in rebates came from the Southern Nevada Water Authority and $290,000 from the Residential Construction Tax.
“It’s a busy neighborhood for recreation,” said Becker. “It’s a very heavily used park.”
About 87,000 square-feet of turf was removed. The city performed a similar task at Morrell Park at 500 Harris St. earlier this year, removing 33,000 square-feet of turf.

With the two projects, Becker said, the city is projected to save 6.6 million gallons of water a year.
Silver Springs Park, located at 1950 Silver Springs Parkway, opened to the public Saturday after 11 months of construction. The park cost almost $1.5 million to restore.
“The park was open in 1989 and as the years went on the irrigation system wasn’t as efficient as it could have been,” said city spokeswoman Kim Becker. “The irrigation system had to go. In order to do that we needed to pull everything out.”
Henderson's Silver Springs Park reopened last week, after nearly a year of renovations. The 6.8-acre park, 1950 Silver Springs Parkway, is now equipped with turf areas, a new playground with shade, a walking course, a lighted ball field and restrooms.
