Purple Hindu Kush is a nice, classic example of an Indica. I recommend it for evening use to help wind down. It is all around relaxing, and good for pain and muscle spasms. I would avoid this strain and other Indicas during the day, at least if I had anything I wanted to get done besides taking a nap. Purple Hindu Kush is best for passive activities like watching a movie, listening to music, and sleeping. Try some Purple Hindu Kush before bed and allow it to carry you away. Sweet dreams!
Yes, Purple Hindu Kush is purple! Well, dark green with hints of purple . under the right light. It has more brown hairs than crystals and, typical for a Kush, the buds are small and tight but not dense. It is not a particularly exciting looking flower.
Purple Hindu Kush has an earthy, yet sweet aroma with sandalwood, floral and fruity notes. It reminds me of a spring walk through a garden just after rain. Through a fresh waterpipe, it has a strong flavor of fresh cut grass with an earthy aftertaste.
I recommend this pure Indica strain for an evening smoke to help wind down from a long day. After a couple of hits (and that’s all I needed), the frenetic commentary in my head slowed down, my eyes got heavy and dry and my muscle spasms began to relax into a strong, fuzzy body high. One drawback — dry mouth. I definitely didn’t turn into a zombie, but I was more drowsy and in less pain than before I smoked.
In the comments section of our “Meet The Experts” post, a reader asked for a strain recommendation to help him sleep, but was concerned about getting a “Marijuana hangover.” Cannabis can cause a “hangover” effect, especially when used copiously right before bed. A cannabis hangover generally will make you feel slow and like your head is stuffed with fuzz. Everything may seem a little surreal. It might not be as bad as an alcohol hangover, but is still no fun, especially at work.
Like sleeping pills, I recommend being able to devote eight hours to sleep when you smoke before bed. If hangovers remain a problem after eight hours of sleep, cut back the amount consumed or try a less potent, lower THC-content strain. At 20% THC, Purple Hindu Kush is considered fairly low-strength these days and would be a good strain to start with, but you may need to ask around and try a few strains before you find one that works well for you.
Kush is a well-known variety that originated in the Kashmir and Jammu regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Strains with “Kush” in the name are known for being potent and may be at least partly responsible for giving stoners negative reputation — slow, drowsy, lazy. In fact, Kush’s notoriety is such that Republican Congressman Mark Kirk of Illinois proposed a bill in 2009 to increase criminal penalties for “Kush” strains, while warning of “zombie-like” pot smokers stumbling around the streets of Chicago, high on “kush super-marijuana.”
