Harvesting – Only female trees bear fruits. Traditionally, fruits are harvested from the ground manually. The whole fruit is harvested between January and March. The fruits fall while they are still green and ripen on the ground in 10 days, turning yellow during the process. Estimations of seasonal fruit production from individual trees have been made in southern Africa assuming an average weight of fresh fruit of 17 g. Values per tree range from 500 kg to 2000 kg ( 20000 to 100000 fruits per tree). Fruits can, however, reach fresh weights of 80–100 g.
Propagation –It is really easy to grow from seeds. The seed should be taken from fallen and soaked in warm water during 24 hours. Place the seed in peat moss for 7 days to soften the lids. Cut carefully the lids with a small knife. Place the seed into the flowerpot in autumn. Keep the soil moist until germination. It should take between 2 and 4 weeks. Propagation can also be by grafting or cutting. By grafting the rootstock and the scion should have the same diameter for optimal grafting.
