holy smoke london

COPPA

What: We’ve been thinking for a while that someone should tap into Frank’s popularity and open another rooftop bar on top of a car park (and preferably in a different part of London). Our prayers have been answered by Roof East, whose vast space has 360 degree views of Stratford (glam), screenings from the Rooftop Film Club and a barbie in the evenings. We got seriously messy with the beef burger (cutlery was offered by a kindly barman), but there was also mackerel and sweetcorn fritters on the coals.
Reviews, recipes and a feast of flavours

THE JAM TREE CHELSEA
What: This old Homerton boozer has had a makeover and got the Cornish Project guys on board as well as the Quality Chop House team consulting on bar snacks — a winning combo if you ask us. During the week they fire up the barbecue, with whole lobsters and Dexter steak getting the smoky treatment. There are plans for gammon, mutton chops and some veggie options.
The moment that sun comes out of those clouds, we Londoners want to be outside, sipping ice-cold drinks with a barbecued snack in hand. Knowing our predilection for chargrilled meats (and indeed veg), lots of the capital’s finest bars and pubs are putting coals on the barbie this summer.
