Ace panama

Has anyone rented a car from Ace rental at the airport? We have booked with them after seeing a great rate on Kayak.com but now Kayak no longer even lists them and we are a bit concerned.

Thereon I asked to talk to ther manager and explained him that I do not wish to pay for the extras put in my account and I want CDW to be removed. After much argument he removed the CDW, personal insurance but kept on 3rd party insurance.
The rate I got on Kayak was $5.00 dollars a day. I was very excited to see that. When I arrived like many who were renting from other car rentals including Hertz, Dollar, Sixt they charge you a mandatory min of of $18.00 dollars a day and make you sign a deductible waver or various amounts depending on your rental car company. I have and many others have tried to use an AMEX gold, Chase INK which clearly cover the insurance but they do not allow you to use CC insurance. So what ever the rate you see quoted on the sites add $18.00 per day plus tax. There is no way around this fee.

I justified that instead of paying $18 per day for basic liability, I pay around $30 per day and cover the whole shabang, and I drive with a lot more peace of mind.
Do NOT rent from Ace car rental at Albrook Marcos A Gelabert Int’l Airport at Albrook Panama city Panama. I made a reservation for a car for one 1 day on a Sunday. According to their website, the office is supposed to be open on Sundays- however when I got there is was CLOSED and no answer to their telephone number! Not a good experience- I would recommend using other car rentals or public metro and taxis while in Panama.
After 30 minutes he takes me to a Kia Picanto which was dirty from outside and inside. It was literally filthy from inside. At 11:30 pm, I had little energy to argue with him so I took on the car and moved on.
I always get my cars from Thrifty and Hertz, either one. the rates are a little better at Thrifty. The liability insurance is mandatory anywhere you rent from. Its not the USA and therefore we feel more confortable with their insurance anyway, even though we have AMEX coverage. The driving in the city is crazier than NYC so having them cover the car is better than using my CC.
Ace rent a car is not a good company. I had a reservation to pick up a car in Colon and have the car for four days. We planned to drive ourselves to Tocumen Airport in Panama City where we would drop off the car. I understand the insurance and one way drop off charges. The total quoted was $250 which included all the rental, insurance and drop off charges. Once we arrived to pick up the car, we were told the charges exceeded $400, and after I showed the agent my quote, he was not interested in meeting the quoted price. We walked out and recommend no one do business with Ace.

Do not rent from Ace rent a car. I booked a car and when I went to the counter no one was there. I called to the number left at the counter. I was reassured my car was on its way several times, I waited for four hours at the airport and no one ever showed up and at one point they stopped answering my calls. I had to rent a car from Avis who were very kind a professional and instead of paying £71 I had to pay $250, Please don’t rent from this company I don’t wish any one to go through the same

I have CDW cover on my USA issued visa card, so am used to declining such cover and I carry proof of this coverage. I am also accustomed to declining SLI as my travel insurance covers me for liability.

As per my confirmed reservation I understood the total charge to be USD$70.18.
I believe this is a scam that ACE are operating to advertise and confirm false rates and then tricking the customer to paying over double the rate when at a foreign airport after a tiring flight.

I haven’t rented from Ace. I’ve had good experiences with Avis at Albrook and David. Okay with them downtown at the Cangrejo agency. (They were late delivering the car I’d rented.) Also, good with Barriga, although it took a bit to get them to accept my AmEx coverage.
When I arrived at the rental counter (Europcar, no ACE signage) I was surprised that the rate had more that doubled and the total cost was $139.55. I protested the rate and the clerk informed me that this happens all the time with Ace and they are a big problem.
Furthermore I would add that the car I was rented was in a poor condition with 3 of the 4 tires dangerously under inflated. And it was poor customer service and lacking in courtesy to give me a car with the fuel gauge on empty (red). The car itself is rather old and battered but it would be as I was expecting if I were paying only $70. For a payment of $140 I expect much better and indeed could have got a better deal of one of your competitors.
Only once have I gotten around the $18 per day mandatory insurance. You’re going to be hit with it no matter which car rental you use. It’s just that a few will tell you up front about it . a few others will tell you when you rent the car . and most — there’s something about the Panamanian culture that prevents them from giving you bad news — won’t tell you at all until you see the bill.
I read the blog on Payless so they are out but has anyone had a good, or even not bad experience with car rental in Panama?

I was informed that the rate of $70 quoted by ACE excludes all liability insurance. I rent a car about 30 times a year in many different countries and this is the first time I have experienced a rate quoted without the minimum legal insurance.
